Each wedding cake designer has his or her unique style. They differ from one another in terms of artistic inclination, source of inspiration, technical expertise, preference for flavours and frostings.

Be sure to :
- Meet with various designers to get a feel of their respective styles.
- Share your ideas and listen to theirs.
- Discuss budgets.
- Taste their cakes if possible.

Other issues to contemplate :
- Potential designs vis-à-vis the budget you have in mind, and how the designer’s creativity can help you achieve the aspirational design whilst at the same time meeting your budget.
- The venue where you are hosting your celebration and its setting may be a deciding factor on what type of frosting is possible, for example, buttercream is unlikely to withstand the heat and humidity of an outdoor reception.
- Do you intend to serve the wedding cake to all your guests? If in the affirmative, arrangements may have to be made with the venue to have the cake cut and then served as part of dessert.
- If you are hosting a destination wedding, is there a cake designer at the destination who would be able to do the cake? Is the resort’s pastry chef an option? Or will you be transporting the cake from your home city?
